Seriously, the best pocketknife ever.
I’m not usually one to shill for products… but the Victorinox Swiss Champion Pocketknife is an exception. This bad boy right here is the best pocketknife in the entire world. I know – I owned two of them, and loved them to death (or at least until I lost them). Plus, at Amazon right now (4/10/2009) it’s $28 ($50 off the regular price) with free shipping.
You never know when you’ll have a MacGuyver moment and need to use a magnifying glass to harness the power of the sun to burn through ropes that bind your wrists together… but enough about my love life. Here’s what you’ll get:
- Large blade, small blade
- Corkscrew, can opener, bottle opener
- Small screwdriver, large screwdriver
- Reamer, punch
- Key ring, tweezers, toothpick
- Scissors, multi-purpose hook
- Wood saw, fish scaler
- Hook disgorger, ruler
- Nail file, nail cleaner
- Metal file, metal saw
- Fine screwdriver, chisel/scraper
- Phillips screwdriver
- Magnifying glass, straight pen
- Pressurized ball point pen
- Mini screwdriver
- Sewing eye
Because, of course, you’ll never know when you need to ream, punch, or disgorge something.
The first one I found when scuba diving in La Jolla Cove. Who knows how long it had been there, abandoned to the whims of the underwater world… but was it rusted? Nope.
When I lost that pocketknife a few years later, I picked up a second one while in Paris en route to Kyrgyzstan, and from then on, I went nowhere without it. Only when someone put it in my backpack because they thought I forgot it … on my way to the airport… did I lost what I considered one of my top 3 most prized possessions.
It’s ideal for the geek/maker/crafter/camper/gadget-loving alcoholic in us all. So do yourself a favor and get one while they’re on sale (or maybe look deep into your heart – you could get me a replacement too.)
